Other improvements needed include trains running on time and more frequent services.
A new National Passenger Survey has shown that value for money fares, trains running on time and more frequent services continue to top rail passengers’ priorities for improvement.
83 per cent asked were satisfied with rail services, but here are still areas they want the industry to focus on improving.
Passenger Focus asked over 3000 passengers to rank their priorities for improvement and the results are broken down for London, Scotland, Wales and all the English regions and for commuters, leisure and business passengers.
The research should help the rail industry and government target and plan future railway spending.
Rail passengers were also asked to rate where services exceeded their expectations, which resulted in being he attitude and helpfulness of staff on the train and at the station were better than what they thought it would be.
Expectations not being met were toilet facilities on the train and value for money.
Ashwin Kumar, Passenger Focus rail director, said: "Clearly getting more trains on time is key but price, the ability to get a seat, dealing with delays and ensuring staff are visible and helpful are also important."
"Constantly working to make rail punctual, good value and frequent is vital to keeping existing passengers happy and attracting new ones."
