UK could get new speed camera by 2013

Camera can determine if driver is wearing a seatbelt, speeding or tailgaiting

A new speed camera could be introduced in the UK by 2013, which includes the ability to see if the driver is wearing a seatbelt or if is it tailgaiting.

It can see inside vehicles, determine how fast motorists are driving and automatically read number plates to see if the vehicle is taxed and insured.

The Asset camera can be attached to a trailer or police car, although is of a large size and weight.

Once the device passes its trials, it can cost approximately £50,000 per unit.

Campaign group speedcameras.org said: "We cautiously welcome a device that can detect several potential motoring offences, but it remains to be seen how accurate it is and how fairly it will be used."
