Slough Borough Council launch new road safety campaign

People encouraged not to text whilst driving.

Slough Borough Council has launched a campaign to stop people using their mobile phones whilst driving.

A recent traffic check on the Farnham Road by Thames Valley Police and Slough Borough Council’s road safety officer, Keith Beasley, found 32 drivers using their phones, approximately half of them texting while they drove.

The campaign includes posters and a billboard with an image of someone texting at the wheel of a car with the message “Hi darling. Just about to run someone over” about to go to the driver’s loved one and a blurred pedestrian figure, which can be seen through the windscreen.

Beasley said: "If you are looking at your phone, then you aren’t looking at the road and whether it is for a split second or not, that could be the time a child runs out in front of you or a cyclist swerves to avoid a drain cover."

"You might think you can stop concentrating on driving for just that short amount of time, but it could be the difference between life and death for you or someone else."
