Simple, flexible solutions to meet your every need

From its origins as Veeder-Root to the Stoneridge Electronics™ identity present today, 2008 sees this leading Tachograph manufacturer celebrate 60 years in the city of Dundee

Stoneridge Electronics has been a leading provider of Tachographs and fleet solutions to the European aftermarket sector since 1974. A wealth of knowledge in design and manufacturing, coupled with insight and experience allows them to ensure customers receive exactly what they want: highly reliable and robust products, backed up by a professional after-sales service.

The company first established itself in Dundee in 1948 in the business of producing counting devices. Over the years it has evolved in line with changing market trends and today employs over 110 staff at its offices in the Claverhouse Industrial Park. Dundee itself, has been a proud nominee in the Top 7 Intelligent Communities of the Year for the past two years running, which goes to show the future is bright for industry in Dundee and for Stoneridge Electronics.

In fact, recently Stoneridge was recognised for its commercial success winning a hat trick of awards at the Design Business Association Awards, including the prestigious Grand Prix, which honours companies that best demonstrate how an effective design strategy has made a real difference to their business. On a local level they have also had success at the Tayside Business Awards as finalists in three categories as well as winners in the category for Business Growth through International Activity, in recognition of their success overseas, developing export markets as far and wide as Russia and China, all from their Dundee base.

Mark Jenkins, MD for Stoneridge, says that the key to their success is their strategic vision for the company, which in turn helps them to retain skilled, happy staff, who have been indispensable to the development of their award-winning OPTACTM range of download and analysis tools, complementing their wide range of Analogue and Digital Tachographs.

The OPTAC download tool has been designed with simplicity in mind. With just four simple buttons and no complex menus, the tool can download data from both the driver card and the Digital Tachograph – and naturally the unit is compatible not only with Stoneridge but with all type-approved Digital Tachographs including ACTIA and Continental VDO units. The tool can hold data from up to 500 smart cards or 20 full tachographs before having to transfer the data onto a computer. The user can then store the data in legal format without any complicated additional software.

Moreover, Stoneridge offer three different OPTAC packages designed to suit your individual needs. The basic package is a simple and cost effective solution aimed at owner-drivers, which allows you to download, store and view all your driver and vehicle activity data. OPTAC+ has the added advantage of automatically analysing the data against the Driver’s Hours Regulations and the Working Time Directive whilst OPTAC2 is ideal for Fleet Operators with mixed Analogue and Digital Tachographs who want to perform Tachograph, Chart and Smartcard analysis.

However, over and above tachographs and data analysis Stoneridge has a whole host of solutions for workshops and fleets to help them work efficiently and cost effectively.  For example, for workshops the robust Tachograph Programmer is upgradeable so it can always operate with the latest Tachograph releases, the Electronic Road Speed Limiter is easy to install and comes with a 2-year guarantee, the 9500 series Rolling Road is a cost effective solution to outdated high-maintenance rollers and the Wireless Smoke Meter is the only meter on the market with radio-frequency wireless operation – meaning you can work over distances reliably and flexibly. Whilst for fleets, Stoneridge products and services include everything from small accessories like charts and paper rolls, to Electronic Road Speed Limiters and On-Board Load Indicators.

Further to their catalogue of products Stoneridge also offer customer and technical support in seven different languages as well as a comprehensive training repertoire to cover fleets and workshops.

Showcasing all this and more the company attended the three day Commercial Vehicle Show last month celebrating their 60 years through a range of exciting and interactive pods, including the “Evolution of the Tachograph” and the “Demonstration Towers”, as well as their Stoneridge Corgi truck promotion.

Finally, in the development of its aftermarket business in the Scandinavian region and to support the increasing demand in sales for this market Stoneridge Electronics  recently acquired Magnum Trade AB, a Swedish based importer of tachographs and related products. Trading with over 170 approved Workshops, Magnum also provide training and advice to Swedish enforcement authorities, vehicle users and fleets. The acquisition has added to Stoneridge’s current aftermarket presence in the UK, France, Spain, Italy and Estonia assisting them in providing an even more comprehensive coverage and variety of products and services.
