‘Kids Say Slow Down’ theme to show that '20's plenty' in towns, villages and around schools.
Road Safety Week 2010 is to take place from 22 to 28 November, with the theme ‘Kids Say Slow Down.’
Teachers are encouraged to start planning their activities now for the annual event, which is organised by road safety charity Brake.
This year’s theme provides a great opportunity to help children understand the dangers of fast traffic, and to pass on the message to parents and other drivers that ‘20’s plenty’ in towns, villages and around schools.
At least three children aged nought to 11 are killed or seriously injured while on foot and bicycles in Britain every day.
Brake has produced a poster pack which is free to schools thanks to funding from the Department for Transport, FedEx, and QBE insurance, and can be ordered through the Road Safety Week website by clicking on the Educators button.
The website also includes some quick tips on engaging lesson ideas which link to the curriculum and are great for using during the week, and beyond.
Mary Williams OBE, chief executive of Brake says: "Speed is the number one killer on our roads."
"Road Safety Week gives teachers a fantastic opportunity to help raise awareness of this vital issue with pupils, parents and the wider community."
