Khan announces slimmed down TfL board

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has announced a new slimmed down TfL board that aims to better represent the diversity of the city.

The board previously included 13 men and four women, with no black and minority ethnic (BAME) representatives. Khan’s newly appointed board includes seven women and five men, including 29 per cent BAME and 13 per cent with a disability.

There is still one further member to be appointed to represent workers, who will be nominated by the TUC.

Khan has managed to reduce costs by around £190,000 by reducing the board by two members and two advisors, as well a implementing a restructured payment system.

Khan said: “I promised to reshape TfL’s board and make it reflect London’s diversity, and that’s exactly what I’ve done. I’m delighted to be able to announce a board that brings together a huge range of talent, experiences and backgrounds, while being more efficient. There are still not enough women in senior positions across London, and I’m proud that we have brought gender parity to the TfL board and increased BAME and disability representation. Together we will ensure that TfL delivers the world-class transport system that Londoners deserve.”
