Intertraffic Istanbul, one of the largest international trade fair for infrastructure, traffic management, safety and parking takes place on 27 - 29 May 2009 at Istanbul Expo Center, Turkey
Since the foundations were laid in 1999 by Amsterdam RAI and partner NTSR, Intertraffic Istanbul has been heading in the right direction for a decade.
Now the show is close to reaching its ultimate destination: To be the largest international exhibition in the specialist fields of infrastructure, traffic management, road safety and parking systems for Turkey, the Balkans, the CIS and the Middle East.
Created by Amsterdam RAI, Intertraffic is already the number one brand in its sector. It attracts all the top companies to the mother event in Amsterdam and has leading regional events in, amongst others, China. The continuous increase in both exhibitors and visitors to all these events is a testimony to the importance of the Intertraffic formula for business.
Connecting two continents
The region’s most active city in the traffic and transportation sector, Istanbul has major economic potential and a dynamic and ever-growing infrastructure. Located within two flight hours of 63 countries, the city benefits enormously from its strategic position. Istanbul is widely accepted as the ideal meeting point for the development of trade from Europe to Asia. As the European Capital of Culture in 2010 and a heritage dating back over 3000 years, the city is immensely popular with tourists. These are just some of the many reasons why Intertraffic Istanbul is the most significant trade and information sharing platform for the region’s traffic sector.
Major opportunities
Intertraffic Istanbul offers significant potential for business due to the major increase in traffic infrastructure projects in Turkey and the rise of developing markets such as Eastern Europe, the CIS and the Middle East. The Turkish Directorate of Highways is aiming to complete some 22,000 kilometres of new roads by 2011, and the share of asphalt concrete road, currently only 12 per cent, is projected to rise to 50 per cent. Expanding ‘smart road’ applications to the whole country is also included in the country’s strategic plan, and a budget allocated for seven build-operate-transfer projects alone totals $22B. Typifying the potential for non-Turkish companies, the Marmaray Project in Istanbul is being built by multinational partners to connect Europe to Asia via an undersea tunnel.
Transforming the credit crunch
At times of economic downturn, companies recognise that the need to ensure a presence on the market is more acute than ever. Both national and international bookings for Intertraffic Istanbul 2009 have already exceeded expectations. Based on data from previous editions, a show-on-show growth of 20 per cent is anticipated. To further transform the credit crunch into new opportunities, Intertraffic Istanbul will feature a conference programme ‘Traffic Solutions Platform – 2’, organised by the University of Bahcesehir, which encompasses many keynote subjects and top notch panels. This is sure to attract the attention of regional and international market leaders, as the very latest trends and innovations are explored. The programme will cover the following subjects:
