European court rules Uber is a transport company

The European’s top court has said that Uber is a transport firm that requires a licence to operate.

According to the BBC, a senior member of the European Union’s top court has stated that the firm is a transport company, despite Uber arguing that it only provides technology to help drivers find passengers.

If the ruling is enforced across Europe, it could mean that Uber will have to operate under the same conditions and safety rules as taxi firms.

Uber has said, however, that the decision does little to change the way it is regulated.
