Coach tourism worth £2.35bn to Britain's economy, report states

Report shows how destinations can reap economic and environmental  rewards of attracting and boosting coach tourism to their area.

A new report states that coach tourism is worth £2.35bn to Britain’s economy and that investment in better facilities by local government could see it worth even more.

'Britain’s Coaches: Delivering Prosperity to You' showcases best practice for national and local government, urban planning institutions, tourism organisations, and businesses across Britain.

It highlights the benefits and the potential the coach and its passengers bring to England, Wales and Scotland by showing how destinations, region by region, can reap the economic and environmental rewards of attracting and boosting coach tourism in their area.

To fully garner the benefits the coach delivers, towns, cities, resorts and attractions can help encourage coach visitors through a range of initiatives including convenient drop off points, secure parking, passenger and coach driver facilities at coach park, clear signage for coach drivers and passengers, destination information ahead of visits and allowing coaches to use bus lanes.

Simon Posner, Chief Executive of the Confederation of Passenger Transport said: "If local government and tourist bodies work with the industry to invest in better facilities, we know the £2.35bn contribution coach tourism makes to the economy can be increased and will result in the creation of more jobs."
