New plans to be implemented could include a shuttle bus service and a local transport top up card
Blackpool Council has submitted a bid for just under £5m funding to the Department for Transport to improve the experience and wider use of public transport in the town.
The aim is to cut carbon emissions, reduce congestion, improve transport links and drive economic growth.
Existing plans and initiatives such as the ‘small steps to active travel’ and cycle town projects will benefit but new plans could also be implemented, such as a shuttle bus service that will make up part of a park and ride system for tourists and a local transport top up card like London’s Oyster card.
Councillor Fred Jackson, Cabinet member for Streets and Transport, said: "Our residents have said for a long time that they want to see improved transport facilities. We want to make sure we can develop methods for getting around town that don’t rely on owning a car."
"By tying together the likes of the cycle hire scheme and bus travel through a single travel card for residents we can encourage people to use them more widely making the whole town accessible."
