Traffic inforcement and environmental concerns also cited as reasons
A RoadPilot survey has shown that 46 per cent of UK motorists have reduced their average speed in the past 12 months, with concerns over rising fuel prices the main reason.
The main reason was cited by 33 per cent, 22 per cent listed greater road congestion, 13 per cent cited traffic inforcement and 10 per cent environmental concerns.
40 per cent of drivers also monitor their vehicle’s fuel consumption more closely than they did a year ago and 86 per cent said that fuel efficiency and emissions were quite or very important when buying a car.
James Flynn OBE, CEO of RoadPilot sad: "It appears that motorists are putting their own driving techniques under greater scrutiny than ever before, and as a result their average speeds have started to come down, which can only benefit road safety."
