£63 million transport infrastructure scheme for Essex to get underway

A13-Sadlers Farm scheme to be completed by March 2012.

A £63 million transport infrastructure scheme is due to get underway in South Essex in June.

The A13-Sadlers Farm scheme will deliver faster and more reliable journeys between London, Basildon, Chelmsford, Southend-on-Sea and Canvey Island.

It will also help deliver promised shorter journey times for the Olympic Mountain Biking Event, which comes to Essex in 2012.

The scheme includes a strategic link or “bypass” between the A13 and A130, a simpler roundabout layout for local traffic, a dedicated slip road between the A13 West and A130 Canvey Way southbound and widening of A13 to four lanes in each direction between the Pitsea Flyover and Sadlers Farm junction.

It is due to be completed by March 2012.

Councillor Norman Hume, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transportation, said: "The A13-Sadlers Farm project is the largest single scheme we’ve seen in Essex in a decade and when complete it will deliver more reliable journeys to thousands of motorists and businesses every day."
