Stagecoach Yorkshire to introduce Wi-Fi on ten new buses

Vehicles to deliver internet access between Sheffield and Matlock.

Stagecoach Group plc are to install ten new double decker buses with complimentary Wi-Fi internet access, cellular broadband gateways provider Icomera has announced.

The passenger internet access will be available on all X17 journeys and most service 17 vehicles, on a brand new route linking Sheffield with Matlock via Chesterfield.

Stagecoach already uses Icomera's Moovbox M200 Mobile Broadband Gateway to provide mobile Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity to passengers at speeds up to several megabits per second on bus services in London, Wales, Cambridge, Oxfordshire and Scotland.

If successful, Stagecoach Yorkshire will consider extending the in-vehicle Wi-Fi access to other routes across the region.

The new buses were unveiled by Stagecoach Yorkshire.

Paul Lynch, the company's managing director, said: "This is the first time Wi-Fi Internet access will be available on buses in our region."

"Having Wi-Fi on buses is part of our commitment to catering for the requirements of passengers, for both work and leisure, and an extension of our philosophy to be an important part of the community."
