£19.8 million for new Leeds Quality Bus Corridor
Scheme to ease congestion and reduce journey times.
A new £19.825 million investment from the Department of Transport will see the construction of new dedicated bus lanes in Leeds.
The scheme, known as a Quality Bus Corridor, will see the construction of new dedicated bus lanes on the A65 approach to Leeds. The stretch of road between the inner and outer ring road will be widened to accommodate the bus lanes, so avoiding delays to other road users.
The aim of the scheme is to ease congestion and reduce journey times for passengers and will also provide benefits for pedestrians and cyclists who use the route.
This is part of a series of transport investments planned for Leeds and its surrounding region.
Transport Minister Sadiq Khan said: "An efficient and reliable transport system is the lifeblood of every local community. This is why we’re investing significant amounts of money in Leeds’ transport infrastructure."
"This scheme will provide a real alternative to the car and help tackle congestion in the north western part of the city."
