Improvements to include new road surface and better signs.
£1.7 million of improvements on the A326 will resurface the existing carriageway, improve highway drainage and replace or renew signs and road markings.
The new work covers two sections of the A326 - the Marchwood bypass from the A35 Rushington roundabout to where it merges with the A326 Totton western bypass, and the A326 from the Dibden Purlieu roundabout to the Hardley roundabout.
The works north of and including the Dibden Purlieu roundabout will be completed by 16 July to reduce delays and inconvenience to road users.
The 20-week scheme comes on top of the recent £450,000 of improvements work agreed by Hampshire County Council.
Most of the work will be carried out during daytime off-peak hours and temporary two-way traffic lights will be used where appropriate, along with 30mph speed limits.
