Work will seal the road surface to prevent water seeping in.
Parts of the Isle of Wight’s road network will be improved with a £1 million programme, which will also protect highways from future weather damage.
After damage from a cold and snowy winter, the Isle of Wight Council is undertaking an extensive programme of work which will seal the road surface to prevent water seeping in.
The process will also improve grip and anti-skid properties and prevent the need for costly reconstruction work.
Roads will first be swept then sprayed with a bitumen emulsion before new chippings are laid on the road surface, which are then compacted into the bitumen to seal the road from future water ingress.
The work is to take place before the main summer holiday season and is expected to take up to six weeks to complete.
Peter Hayward, Isle of Wight Council head of Highways and Transport said: "This is an economic and quick surface treatment specifically designed to seal the road surface and prevent the incidence of potholes in the future."
